PROPERTY TAXES In the State of Louisiana you will enjoy a very low property tax rate. In addition, the entire state has a Homestead Exemption for homeowners. If you own a home in Louisiana and reside in that home you will be exempt from the first $75,000 of assessed value for parish taxes.
Just to give you an idea, below are examples calculated from the Lafayette Parish Tax Assessor's website. Or if you would like to see the estimated taxes on a specific home, you can use the Tax Estimator on the Tax Estimator page of the Assessor's site.
Also, prior to purchasing a home you can look up the last year's tax assessment on that property by searching for it by address on the Property Search page of the assessor's site.
These examples all include your homestead exemption. The tax amounts below are annual property taxes.
